Free Halloween Bat Beanie Hat 1 yr+

Bat Beanie Hat 1 yr+



The pattern is in US terms

Items required 
4mm (6) and 5mm (H) hook. If you don’t have a 4mm hook use a 4.25mm (G) hook instead.
Black & White Double knit (8 ply) 
Stitch marker Wool needle nStuffing

Guidelines
At the end of each round just carry on, do not join with a slip stitch.  
Mark the start of each round and then move marker as a round is completed.
HK – hook CH – chain SS – Slip Stitch
SC – Single crochet.
SC Inc – Single Crochet Increase. Increase by placing 2 sc in 1 stitch.
SC Dec – Single Crochet Decrease. Hook through 1st stitch, yarn over hook, pull hook through, hook through next stitch, yarn over hook, pull through. Yarn over hook and through all the loops.
HDC – half double crochet
HDC Inc – Half double crochet Increase.  Increase by placing 2 hdc in 1 stitch.
HDC Dec – Half double crochet decrease.  Yarn over hook, through 1st stitch, yarn over hook through, hook through next stitch, yarn over hook pull through.  Yarn over hook and pull through all the loops.  

Gauge
7 sts & 6 rows = 2”
If your hat is coming out too big go down one hook size and vice versa if it’s too small.

1-3 years cm 45.72cm - 50.80cm 20.32cm
  " 18" - 20" 8"
3 – 10 years cm 48.26cm - 50.07cm 21.59cm
  " 19" - 20.5" 8.5"
10 years + cm 50.7cm - 55.8cm 22.86cm - 25.4 cm
  " 20.5" - 22" 9" - 10"

Using 5mm (H) hook and  yarn. 
Ch 2 (or use magic circle)
Round 1) 6 hdc in the 2nd ch from the hook (6)
Round 2) 6 hdc inc (12)
Round 3) *1 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (18)
Round 4) *2 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (24)
Round 5) *3 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (30)
Round 6) *4 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (36)
Round 7) *5 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (42)
Round 8) *6 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (48)
Round 9) *7 hdc, 1 hdc inc * x 6 (54)
Round 10) *8 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (60) (1 -3 yrs go to round  13)
Round 11) *9hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (66) (3 – 10yrs go to row 13)
Round 12) *10 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (72)
Round 13) hdc around (66) (1 – 3 yrs 60, 3 – 10 yrs 66, 10 yrs+ 72)
You need another 13 rounds for each of the sizes. 
                                   (total quantity of rounds  1 – 3 yrs 24, 3 – 10 yrs 25, 10 yrs+ 26)
When you have finished the above slip stitch x 2, finish.

Attach the head to the hat    


Teeth
White yarn & 4mm hook
Ch 7
Row 1) 1 sc in 2nd ch from hk, 1 sc, ch 1, turn (2)
Row 2) 1 sc dec, turn (1)
Row 3) 1 ss, finish (1)
Join the yarn to the other end of the ch
Row 4) ch 1, 1 sc, ch 1, turn (2)
Row 5) 1 sc dec, turn (1)
Row 6) 1 ss, finish (leave enough yarn to attach to the head) (1)
Add the teeth to the head   

Eyes x 2
White yarn & 4mm (6) hook
Ch 2
Round 1) 6 sc in 2nd ch from hk (6)
Round 2) 6 sc inc (12), 2 ss, finish (leave enough yarn to attach to the head)


Pupils x 2
Black yarn & 4mm hook
Ch 2
Round 1) 3 sc in 2nd ch from hk, join with a ss, finish (leave enough yarn to attach to the eye) (3)
   Attach the pupils to the eyes 

Attach the eyes to the head




Ears x 4
Black yarn & 4mm (6) hook
Ch 6
Row 1) 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hk, 3 hdc, ch 2, turn (4)
Row 2 – 3)    4 hdc, ch 2, turn (4)
Row 4) 1 hdc inc, 2 hdc, 1 hdc inc, ch 2, turn (6)
Row 5) 1 hdc dec, 2 hdc, 1 hdc dec, ch 2, turn (4)
Row 6) 2 hdc dec, ch 2, turn (2)
Row 7) 1 hdc dec, finish (1) (leave enough yarn to attach 2 ears together and attach to the hat)

Attach 2 ears together to make one ear. Do this again to make the other ear
Attach the ears to the head.   



Wings x 4
