What You Doing Wednesday Week 181

Good Morning Everyone!
I hope your week is going well!

I really hope you had a fantastic Christmas!

Ours didn't quite turn out as planned.
Christmas day our visitors left
just before it was time to get making
everything for lunch.
The next visitors came whilst we were eating it.
It was brilliant to see everything but
it put a quick ending to Christmas lunch.

Something did go to plan and that was the fantastic
and beautiful Goose.
It was beautiful and it tasted even better
the next day.

Then Christmas evening the rain started.
by the time my Mother-in-law woke
up in the morning her house was flooded.
Luckily Darren's brother and his family
had stayed the night so they helped
rip everything out and help get the water out.

My mum and dad as well as my brother and his family
were stranded at home as well.
They were the lucky ones and didn't get flooded
but we couldn't get to them and they couldn't
get out so Boxing Day was very quite.

The flood waters are going down but only in
time for another storm to arrive
and bring yet more rain.

It was so scary!
Literally wales, north England and Scotland
was mostly flooded.
So many people have lost so much and
quite a number of them aren't covered
by insurance because they are in a flood area.

The village where I was married was
devastated.
It has flooded previously but hundreds of
homes that have never flooded were and
the water was nearly to ceiling height.

I cannot believe that some much water
can go so far and have so much damage.

It made us very grateful for where we live
and how lucky we were.
I am devastated for all the people that have
been affected.
Luckily all the communities pulled together.
They even put a ban on people coming to help
as so many had already arrived.
How special is that.
My dad was at the church making sandwiches
and tea and coffee.
He then helped mop up the next day.

I managed to see my family on the Sunday
which made up for everything.
I ended up having to sit in another room
as I couldn't handle the noise but seeing
them just made my Christmas.

Red Monster was so lucky
and I am so lucky having some a wonderful son.
He took his time reading cards
and even got excited by the books he received.
He always gets a book he can read to me,
a book I can read to him,
a boardgame we can all play together
and something off his wish list.
We got him some surprises as well :-).

This is how everything looked before
everyone came down.

This is everything Red Monster received
in his stocking from Santa.
He even got a spud gun.
Daddy and him are going to play
with it this weekend.

Red Monster opening his Jenga Quake.
It was one of the games he wanted so he was very
excited about it.
He also got yatzee and mastermind as well as monopoly from
my auntie.

This is the mess when he had finished opening
everything.
I promise after this he helped put everything
for recycling in the bin and
put all the rubbish in a bin bag.

Here he is reading a card and present he received from his
God Mother.

We went for a walk on Monday when the sun came out.
Red Monster loved jumping in the muddy puddles.

Benji enjoyed playing in the mud as well.
This picture doesn't even begin to
express how muddy and happy he was!

We went out on the Tuesday as well
and the sun really did shine.
It was nice getting out for some fresh air!
Daddy was back at work so it was just the
two of us and Benji.
There were lots of people and dogs out
so both Red Monster and Benji had fun.

And yes I am making something :-).
I am crocheting a hat for my niece.
She loves minnie so I decided to make
her a hat.
It's her birthday this month and I like
making it special.
She is only two this year so I don't think she'll
see her present early.

Now it's your turn to share what you are doing.
It doesn't have to be crochet, anything you are making
is perfect.

I've Made Friday Week 181

Good Morning everyone!

Happy Christmas!

I hope you are having a fantastic day
with your family and/or friends!

Even if you are own this year I hope
you are making it special.

I am spending my day with
my husband and son.
I was so excited to give them their presents.

Last night Red Monster received his
pj's, slippers and dressing gown from Santa.
He accidentally drops it off his sleigh
on the way past to the people who's Christmas
starts early.
This means Red Monster can go to bed
on Christmas Eve with new clean and smart
nightware and look good in the morning.

We have quite a few traditions.
Red Monster always gets a book and a boardgame.
In the afternoon we always play the boardgame.
All of us that are there.
This year it's Jenga Quake.
He has got quite a few books.
Ones at his level of reading but more fun than schools.
It's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,
Spiderman
& Bug Hero 6.

I can't remember what his other books are
and I am actually writing this before
Christmas Day so can't open them to see.

I am super excited about his presents.
He is getting a power workshop.
Features a jigsaw, circular saw, sander,
lathe, drill and table vice.
He is also getting a tool box that includes
hand saws, hammers etc.
He is also getting the lego police station.

The thing I am most excited about is
Red Monster is getting a butter churning kit.
Then his dad is getting a cheese making kit.
I can't wait to see them make them together.
I really hope they enjoy it.
Red Monster has been asking to make cheese
for quite a while.

Onto what I have been making;

The diamond minecraft sword
for Red Monster.

The Reindeer that I made
for a family friend.
I hope she likes it!

The Christmas Tree
for our decorations.
I really like how it turned out :-).
Now just need to decide where
it is going to sit in the house.

I really hope you are having a fantastic
Christmas day!
I will hopefully have some pictures
for you next week.

Now it's time for linky love.
Please feel free to share anything you've made.

What You Doing Wednesday Week 180

Good Morning Everyone!
I hope your week is going well!

Squueee! I am super excited about Christmas.
I have been playing Christmas tunes
whenever possible.
Hubby hates them so we have had to save
them for when he isn't in the room.

I am making quite a few things.
I love being able to make something for someone.

Hubby and son are planning on going
and watching star wars.
I decided to make Red Monster a hat
so that he could wear it to the cinema.

It's going to be a storm trooper hat.
Hopefully!

I am also making him a surprise present
for his room.

It's going to be a diamond minecraft sword.

I am also making another book
for a friend for Christmas.

It's going to be a jumping Reindeer.

I have also made another one for us.
It's a Christmas tree.
You'll have to wait to see that one on Friday
as I've already finished it.

We have been taking Benji for walks each day.
Red Monster even came with me.
He had such fun running with Benji and
squelching through the mud!
It was lucky he had his boots on.

We even got to see a rainbow.
It was cold but good fun.
I am also already seeing the benefit
of going out for a walk.
It tires me out for the rest of the day
but my heart rate is reducing.
I even got it down to 84 beats a min the other evening.
Getting down from 127 beats a min I don't think
that's too bad.
Still having problems with my asthma meds
setting it off and sometimes in the day
but if I keep walking I am sure I can get
it more under control.
If it goes up I am also making sure that I
lie down and down move until my heart settles.

It was nice going for a walk with Red Monster.
I love how his face lights up every time
he sees a new dog to say hello to.

He is sooo excited about Christmas!
Everyday he enjoys moving the Santa
countdown.
We are also all excited about having
Christmas at home.
It's our first time and we are hoping it's
going to be super special!
The goose is being delivered today :-).

Now it's your turn to share what you are doing.
It doesn't have to be crochet, anything you are making
is perfect.

String Fling ~ Kansas City Star Quilts ~ Book Review

by Bonnie K. Hunter

ISBN: 9781611690477
Publication Date: 03 July 2012
RRP: £17.99

Available direct from Search Press.

It really is amazing what can be created with small pieces of fabric.
Bonnie brings together her techniques of using
String - pieces of fabric too small to be used in sewing.
She teaches you how to sew them together to make strips
and blocks.
From there she then shows you projects that you can use them in.

As a new quilter I am very excited about using scraps.
I don't have much of a stash and by using the scraps
it means I can get more quilts out of the fabric I have.

In this day and age I feel like we should be using up
everything you can.
You can even use fabric that is down to 3/4".
Isn't that amazing.
You don't need to waste any of those pieces.

I love these type of books that no only show
you a technique they show you multiple projects
that you can use the techniques with.

The designs are so inspirational
and use other techniques as well to bring you an amazing
array of different designs.

There are step by step instruction so even a newbie
like me is able to make quilts using the
string method.

I really love this book and will be using
Bonnie's technique to use up my scraps
and increase the amount of quilts that I am making.

More Adventures with Leaders and Enders ~ Kansas City Star Quilts ~ Book Review

by Bonnie K. Hunter

ISBN: 9781611691245
Publisher: Kansas City Star Quilts
Publication Date: 11 April 2014
RRP: £18.99

Available direct from Search Press.

I am a huge fan of Bonnie's technique.
By using the start and the end of the fabric
you are already sewing together you can
create amazing quilts.
The other brilliant thing is it isn't going
to take you any extra time to get all the
pieces prepared.

The thing I also love about Bonnie's
books is that you get patterns so that if you
are not sure how to put your quilt together
you don't need to worry.

Bonnie's designs mean that no matter you colour
of fabric you'll be able to put one of the designs together.

The designs run from more traditional designs
to ones with a more modern twist.

This book will not only teach you Bonnie's technique
it will inspire and motivate you.

The templates aren't included but most of the
designs use basic squares, triangles etc
that you would normally make anyway.

Scraps of fabric lying around will be a
thing of the past.
You'll be surprised how quickly you can make
up quilt's from the squares etc. you have made.

I truly believe Bonnie's technique of using
leaders and enders is a one that
all quilters should learn about!
