The Patchsmith's Animal and Pet Mug Rugs ~ Book Review

The Patchsmith's
Animal and Pet Mug Rugs
by Amanda Weatherill

ISBN: 9781508436584
Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform
Publication Date: 19 Mar. 2015
RRP: £10.39

I am new to quilting and as soon as I saw
this book I knew I wanted to have it.
I have not been disappointed.

Amanda has designed a mix of fun
and colourful mug rugs.
There are ten different designs
held within the book.
They are mini quilts so are perfect for
a quick fix.

I'm making some for my house and some
as gifts for family and friends.
I already have a list of everyone's requests
that have seen the book.

The designs are fun and can be altered
to match your decor.
The designs also cover different celebrations
throughout the year.

The projects are;
Spring Lambs
Spring Chicken
Scottie Dogs
Red Elephants
Whales
Fox
Hedgehogs
Black & White Cats
Two Owls
Christmas Antlers

The book starts with general instructions.
It's well worth reading these before you start.
There are step-by-step guidelines to make
the projects easier for you.

I love the fact that she gives you ideas
that will make your quilts cheaper to make.
One of them is you don't have to use wadding
or batting to quilt your mug rugs with.

The tips are really useful and I love the fact
that there are step-by-step illustrations
and pictures to help as well.

At the start of each project there are details
of all the fabric you will need for the project.

The instructions are clear and easy to understand.
You can also find help at and more
of her patterns at Amanda's website.

Each of the projects includes the templates
to make each of the mug rugs.

The designs are such great fun.
I know I'll be making lots of them.
I highly recommend this book!

I purchased the book myself.

I've Made Friday Week 177

Good Morning everyone!
I hope your week is going well.
I hope you are looking forward to the weekend.

I hope everyone in the USA had a fantastic Thanks Giving!

I have a bit of a confession today.
I had a bit of a self pity party.
I have them every so often
and this was due to a new condition.

If you don't want to read my waffle
just skip it to my pictures :-)

I had an MRI on Saturday and it aggravated my
neck and spine even more than normal.
I took my painkillers on Saturday, Sunday & Monday.
Unfortunately on Monday I had to go to my
Uncle's funeral.
My body wasn't happy about the stress
or on the being on my feet or sat down
in a cold room.
It was a good send off for my uncle
and lots of people attended.
It was nice seeing all my family even
though I didn't really feel myself.

Anyway by that evening the pain
had got so bad that it was making me feel sick.
I rested the next day but I had to come
to the realization that the problem
with the damaged root nerves in my spine
are a lot worse than I was willing to admit.
I had a good sit down with myself
and looked at what has been happening over
the last few months.
I have been fobbing off my symptoms with it's
just my peripheral neuropathy.
I am losing the sensation in my hands.
Everytime I touch something, including my clothes,
I have a burning pain.
The way I can describe it is when you get pins
and needles and you get that awful pain
not long before they are going, that's it.

After having a good talk with myself
I'm back on form.
I have to be very careful that I don't flare
my neck up more.
I ended up at the dr's and when she touched
the swollen part I nearly hit the roof.
It is probable that the nerve is damaged
so I'll not get back to where I was
but I'm already thinking of ways to cope
with it.
It's not going to stop me crafting.
I think I would go loopy if I didn't.

Anyway lets get onto a happier note.
I wasn't sure what I had shown you last
week so I did a couple of group shots.
I'm still making Christmas Decorations
as my mum has put in orders for some she wants.

I've Made Friday Week 176

Good Morning everyone!
I hope your week is going well.
I hope you are looking forward to the weekend.

Autumn has finally arrived.
We've spent most of the week getting
soaking wet.

Red Monster had a pantomime at school yesterday
and he is off on a school trip today.

I've been making Christmas Decorations
this week.
It's been great fun.
I am so much happier about my sewing.
I still put lots of holes in my fingers
and it takes me longer than most
but it's looking up so much better.
I hope you agree.

I've got quite a few more designed and hubby let me
buy a couple of books of patterns so I'm making some
of them as well.
The patterns I have designed myself I will hopefully
be putting online soon.

Now it's time for linky love.

What You Doing Wednesday Week 176

Good Morning Everyone!
I hope your week is going well!

Whilst I'm writing this post
the wind is howling round the house
at 80 mph nearly 160 kph.
Not sure how we'll sleep through the noise.

This week has been a bit different.
I'm on more pain meds.
I have to be sensible and take them.
I used to only take them when I couldn't
control the pain using crochet etc.
However things have changed.
Three of my meds have caused my heart
to speed up.
The doctor also said that when I'm in pain
my heart rate will increase even more.
So if my heart rate starts going up
and I'm in pain it's straight on the pain meds
and lie down and relax till the heart rate
goes down.

I've not been able to concentrate on
crocheting (I keep losing count)
so I decided to make some felt
Christmas decorations.

It's been great fun.
I made a first set to see how they
would turn out.
I liked them so much I decided to design
quite a few.
I've designed all the patterns
and kept copies so hopefully
I'll be able type up some instructions
so you can make some as well.

So this might not look exciting,
I've cut out all the pieces and each
decoration is in it's own bag.
Hopefully if I'm up to it I'll be sewing
them over the coming days.

Don't worry I'll still be able to show
you the first set I made on Friday.

I told you it wasn't very exciting.

Now it's your turn to share what you are doing.
It doesn't have to be crochet, anything you are making
is perfect.
Please add the pin to your post & check out a couple
of other people that are sharing their work

ISBN: 9781573679541
Publisher: Annie's
Publication Date: 31 August 2015
RRP: £9.99

Available direct from Search Press.

This book has eight different designs that use
triangles in a different way to make
beautiful afghans.

The patterns have been chosen to offer you
unique styles & variety.

The patterns vary in level of quilter.
There are patterns for beginners and for
advanced quilters.
Each of the projects builds up your skills
so help you on your way to being a more
confident quilter.

There are illustrations and pictures
throughout the projects, which mean
that you feel confident with each step
of the quilting process.

With each of the projects broken down

confident whilst making each of them.

The designs can be altered to your own
colour schemes and choices.
Each of the designs may use triangles
but with the different sizes and layouts
they each look unique.

For a new quilter I find this book easy to follow.
It's simple instructions help you to make
amazing designs.

The thing I like about the designs the most
is actually the use of the background colour
(blank space colour).
The way it is used has a huge impact on the designs.

I really love this book and would highly
recommend it to any quilter
beginner or not.
