Guest Blogger Week 110 ~ Everyday Life at Leisure

I would like to welcome
Jennifer Short Bennett

"Hi!  I'm Jen and I blog at Everyday Life atLeisure. I really appreciate Sue giving me this chance to talk to you!
I've been knitting and crocheting for about 20 years.  I learned the basics when I was 10, and got much more serious about learning to knit something other than garter stitch after my daughter was born in 2011.  Then I became more serious about crocheting something other than granny squares about a year later when a friend who worked for Leisure Arts asked if I would be interested in blogging for them.  I thought it sounded like fun, so I immediately said "yes."  Then he said I should probably learn how to Knook.  I said "yes!" again, even though I didn't really know what that meant.
I learned.

Since then, I've decided the best course of action is to agree to do just about anything anyone asks you to if you think it's even a tiny bit possible and then see what happens next.  It hasn't been the best decision for my sleep habits, but it's been a fun way to learn new things!

Blogging for Leisure Arts means that I try out their patterns and write about them.  That's it!  That's the whole blog!  I've got about 30 years' worth of patterns to look at, and I've got a lot to say about them!  My whole 'say yes and see if you can pull it off' plan was really put into action last summer when I was asked to write more about crochet.  I now try to write 3 posts about crochet each week.  That's a lot of crocheting!  After some initial panic, I discovered that crocheting dishcloths is a great way to try out new stitches and techniques and I was hooked!  (Pun intended.)

Since last summer I've gotten a lot more familiar with different crochet stitches and, more importantly, learned a lot about reading crochet patterns.  The abbreviations that used to terrify me are familiar and completely unmysterious now.  Crocheted baby hats are my go-to shower presents now, and I actually find myself getting excited about crocheting afghans.  You never how much you might enjoy something until you try it, and I'm happy that I have plenty of chances to try so many new things.  Blogging about my projects has been a great way to meet all kinds of different crafters and hear about their favorite patterns and practices.  It's an absolute blast and I love doing it.
Stop by anytime!"

Thank you ever so much Jen!
