Turtle Beanie Hat 1 yr+



The pattern is in US terms
Items required 
4mm (6) and 5mm (H) hook. If you don’t have a 4mm hook use a 4.25mm (G) hook instead.
Green, blue, white, black & dark brown Double knit (8 ply) 
Stitch marker
Wool needle
stuffing

Guidelines
At the end of each round just carry on, do not join with a slip stitch.  
Mark the start of each round and then move marker as a round is completed.
HK – hook CH – chain SS – Slip Stitch
SC – Single crochet
SC Inc – Single Crochet Increase. Increase by placing 2 sc in 1 stitch.
SC Dec – Single Crochet Decrease. Hook through 1st stitch, yarn over hook, pull hook through, hook through next stitch, yarn over hook, pull through. Yarn over hook and through all the loops.
HDC – half double crochet
HDC Inc – Half double crochet Increase.  Increase by placing 2 hdc in 1 stitch.
HDC Dec – Half double crochet decrease.  Yarn over hook, through 1st stitch, yarn over hook through, yarn over hook, through next stitch, yarn over hook pull through.  Yarn over hook and pull through all the loops.  
DC – Double crochet
DC Inc - Double crochet Increase. Increase by placing 2 dc in 1 stitch
DC Dec – Double crochet decrease. Yarn over hook, through 1st stitch, yarn over hook through, yarn over hook through 2 loops, hook through next stitch, yarn over hook pull through.  Yarn over hook and pull through 1st 2 loops, yarn over hook and through all the hoops left.
TR - Treble Crochet
Gauge
7 sts & 6 rows = 2”
If your hat is coming out too big go down one hook size and vice versa if it’s too small.

1-3 years cm 45.72cm - 50.80cm 20.32cm
  " 18" - 20" 8"
3 – 10 years cm 48.26cm - 50.07cm 21.59cm
  " 19" - 20.5" 8.5"
10 years + cm 50.7cm - 55.8cm 22.86cm - 25.4 cm
  " 20.5" - 22" 9" - 10"
BASIC HAT
Using 5mm (H) hook and green yarn. 
Ch 2 (or use magic circle)
Round 1) 6 hdc in the 2nd ch from the hook (6)
Round 2) 6 hdc inc (12)
Round 3) *1 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (18)
Round 4) *2 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (24)
Round 5) *3 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (30)
Round 6) *4 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (36)
Round 7) *5 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (42)
Round 8) *6 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (48)
Round 9) *7 hdc, 1 hdc inc * x 6 (54)
Round 10) *8 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (60) (1 -3 yrs go to round  13)
Round 11) *9hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (66) (3 – 10yrs go to row 13)
Round 12) *10 hdc, 1 hdc inc* x 6 (72)
Round 13) hdc around (66) (1 – 3 yrs 60, 3 – 10 yrs 66, 10 yrs+ 72)
You need another 13 rounds for each of the sizes. 
                                   (total quantity of rounds  1 – 3 yrs 24, 3 – 10 yrs 25, 10 yrs+ 26)
When you have finished the above slip stitch x 2, finish.

Eyes x 2
4mm (6) hook, blue, black & white yarn
Black Ch 2
Round 1) 6 sc in 2nd ch from hk (6)
Round 2) 6 sc inc, ss to join, finish (12)
Change to blue yarn
Round 3) ch 1, 1 sc inc in next st, *1 sc, 1 sc inc* x 5, ss to join, finish (18)
Change to white yarn
Round 4) Ch 1, 17 sc, ss to join, finish (18) (leave enough yarn to attach to the hat)

Take a piece of white yarn and embroider a dash in the black  

 Attach & stuff as you go.

Eyelids x 2
4mm (6) hook & green yarn
Ch 2
Row 1) 8 hdc in 2nd ch from hk, ch 2 turn (8)
Row 2) 8 hdc inc, ch 1, turn (16)
Row 3) 16 sc, finish (16) (leave enough yarn to attach to the hat)
   Attach to the hat    

Mouth
4mm (6) hook & green yarn
Ch 25
Row 1) 1 hdc in 2nd ch from hk, 23 hds, ch 1, turn (24)
Row 2) 1 ss, 1 sc, 20 hdc, 1 sc, 1 ss, turn (24)
Row 3) Miss ss, 1 ss, 1 sc, 18 hdc, 1 sc, 1 ss, turn (22)
Row 4) Miss ss, 1 ss, 1 sc, 16 hdc, 1 sc, 1 ss (20)
Row 5) sc around the whole of the mouth, ss to join, turn 
Row 6) 1 ss, 2 sc, 3 hdc, 3 dc, 2 tr,  3 dc, 3 hdc, 2 sc, 1 ss, turn (20)
Row 7) miss ss, 1 ss, 1 sc, 3 hdc, 3 dc, 2 tr, 3 dc, 3 hdc, 1 sc, 1 ss, finish (18) leave enough to
attach to the hat

Embroider the mouth and nostrils  
Attach to the hat and stuff as you go.
