Guest Blogger Week 46 Cosy a Go Go

I would like to say a huge welcome
to Ellie
 from Cosy a Go Go

Hi, my name is Ellie, but I also go by Alienfish online.
This is my first time as a guest blogger, and I have to admit that I’m not the best at keeping up with my own blog.
After a break of 18 months, I’ve finally come back to posting again, and my plan for 2013 is to make more time for updating my blog, we’ll see how that works out!

I’ve been crocheting since my mum taught me 7 years ago.
As she’s right handed and I’m left handed, it took a few goes before I got it right,
but since then it’s been a craft that I love and spend as much of my free time doing as I can.
It’s also one I’ve been able to share as several of my nieces are left handed too, so I’ve taught them as well.

I started my blog as a way of publishing a couple of patterns I had created online.
About 3 ½ years ago I started to write my own patterns.
I decided to make some daleks for my friends’ children, the only crochet pattern I found online turned out to be far bigger than I wanted, so starting from scratch I created my own, much smaller design.
I decided to publish it online for free, along with a few other patterns I created at the same time (that year everyone got egg cosies for Christmas), and I haven’t stopped since!
My biggest problem is finding the time to type up the patterns properly as I like to test each one before publishing to make sure that it is correct.

My latest pattern is a gecko, just published at the end of 2012 and available free through my own blog and Ravelry.
This was created as part of a much bigger project I’m currently undertaking.
A few weeks ago I had a text from my husband’s brother asking me if I would crochet the favours for his wedding in June 2013,
I could crochet anything I wanted as they wanted a selection of small amigurumi gifts to give to their guests.
I agreed and then asked how many guests – to be told 120!
As I’m always up for a challenge and I had about 8 months before the wedding I eagerly accepted.

So far it’s been great fun. I have set myself a weekly target of how many I need to complete each week in order to deliver on time, and I’ve now made just over 40 of the 120, so I am feeling pretty confident that I can deliver on time.

It’s also a great excuse to spend time looking at other people’s blogs and websites to find quick, small but attractive things to make. I’m also designing new things as I go along, as ideas pop into my head, such as the gecko (soon to be followed by owl babies and a lion).

Thanks for having me and feel free to check up on me anytime to see if I’ve stuck to my resolution of posting on my blog a bit more regularly!

Ellie

  1. Good for you, Ellie. It is tough to write patterns and make sure they are readable by others. Even so, people will complain that you didn't put in enough information or too much information, not enough photos or too many photos. Just remember, you can't please everyone. I've never heard of a dalek. I'm going to look it up to see what it is. Nice job.
